LIFE REFLECTIONS

To the marital union of Mary and William Atkins, on November 27, 1955, two babies were born. One of the babies was named Marvin Atkins. He was one of six children, two boys and four girls: Eugene, Aileen, Brenda, Elaine, and his twin sister, Marlene.

Marvin found Christ at an early age. He graduated 8th grade, at Zion Lutheran School, and attended Lutheran North High School, while finishing his studies, and graduating, from Vashon High School.

In 1974, Marvin accepted a job at Burlington Northern Railroad. That same year, he met the love of his life, Gladys Morton, and they were married a year later, on June 6th, 1975. This union became the blessing of two daughters, Camille and Benita.

Marvin worked for Burlington Northern for 24 years, until he was officially retired in 1998. After his departure, Marvin used his retirement to focus on his family, and his hobbies.

When Marvin wasn't spending time with his family, he developed an interest in Ham Radio. He was so proud of his Call Sign, KD0AOP and his title as an "Extra," which is the highest title you can achieve in Ham Radio. Marvin's excitement was so contagious, he was able to get his wife, Gladys to join Ham Radio with him. He was so proud to have her by his side, while they both were able to make radio contacts with people all over the world.

Another hobby that Marvin enjoyed, was his love for music. This lifelong passion led him join a music club, in which he learned how to play the organ. The joy Marvin got from playing music spilled into him teaching his oldest daughter, Camille how to play the organ as well. There was never a day when you did not hear beautiful music playing all over the house. They both played so well, that they were asked to perform a concert at the Schmitt Music Store in Overland Park Kansas. Playing music with his daughter, was another memory that Marvin treasured.

On March 27th 2025, God called Marvin home. He leaves to cherish in his memory: His wife - Gladys; children - Camille and Benita; sisters - Brenda & Elaine; three grandchildren - Sylas, Ava, & Ethan; four nieces - Levetrea, Shirrelle, Rachel, & Kenisha; three nephews - Michael, Charles, & Tony; two son-in-laws; Dennis Murphy, & Chris Lavenburg; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Finerson; and a host of great nieces & great nephews, family and friends. Preceded in death; brother- Eugene; sisters - Marlene & Aileen; niece - Monica; nephew - Harry; brother-in-law - Charles Collins

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
