Martha Lee Wild, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on June 15, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love and joy that will be cherished forever. She was born on August 31,1939, and throughout her life, she touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Martha was a remarkable woman whose kindness was evident from the moment you met her. Her career with the North Kansas City School District spanned decades, first as a special education teacher at Northgate and Winnetonka and later as the administrator for special education for the district. In retirement, she continued to serve as a substitute teacher for another 15 years.
From playing bridge card games with her friends from the school district since her 20s to engaging in lively matches of mahjong, Martha always found joy in spending time with her loved ones. Her love for travel took her on many adventures, where she embraced new experiences.
Music and dancing held a special place in Martha's heart. She found happiness while reading a good book, fishing, being in nature, watching football and golf, playing tennis with her group of fellow enthusiasts or whipping up delicious meals in the kitchen.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, and her dachshund that she loved dearly: Gretchen.
Surviving Martha are her children: Jeffrey (Jodi) Dorward, Jarrod Wild, and Lori (Rick) Frech; sister: Judi (Dennis) Knipmeyer; grandchildren: Austin (Melissa) Dorward, and Megan (Byrice) Haynes; great grandchildren: Marleigh and Blakely Dorward; nephew: Aaron (Vicki) Knipmeyer; niece: Jessica (Kasey) Keltner; great nieces and nephews: Nora Knipmeyer, Will Knipmeyer, Marie Keltner, and Luke Keltner; great nephew and family: Drake Hendrix (Tasha) great-great nieces Zona and Letty, as well as many other family and friends.
A graveside service will be held for friends and family on Friday, June 28th at 10:30am at Terrace Park, 801 NW 108th St Kansas City, MO 64155.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests instead that a donation be made in Martha’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (which can be found online at https://stjude.org).
