Marilyn R. Unger (Merry) passed away peacefully Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the age of 59.
Marilyn is survived by her mother, Barbara Merry; husband, John Unger; daughter and son-in-law, Katelyn and Ben Lawing; granddaughter, Sophia Lawing; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Larry Cooper; brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Arlene Merry and many nieces and nephews whom she loved with all of her heart. She is preceded in death by her father, James Merry; and brother, Scott Merry.
She was born October 4, 1960 in Bay City, MI to James and Barbara Merry. She graduated High School and decided it was time to start working. Marilyn’s mother got Marilyn her first job and introduced her to this young man at work named John. Marilyn thought John was dreamy! They became friends and after years of friendship they started dating and eventually got hitched May 2, 1981 in Kansas City, MO where they resided until Marilyn’s passing. As the ups and downs in life came and went, they never once let their spontaneity and love for each other leave. Their bond was unbreakable. They made it through anything and everything, always stronger than ever before. Up until the end of Marilyn’s life, she looked into John’s eyes with so much love and passion. We will never forget their love for each other.
Ten years later John and Marilyn welcomed their only daughter into the world. From that point on life was all about Katelyn and family. Marilyn lived for her family. She would do anything in the entire world for her family. Marilyn and Katelyn were closer than any daughter mother duo in many more ways than one. They were inseparable. Never a day went by without talking on the phone. Nothing made her happier than seeing her granddaughter for the very first time. She loved Sophia with all her heart and snuggled her every single chance she got.
Another very special person in Marilyn’s life was her sister Cathy. Marilyn, Cathy and their crazy husbands spent a lot of time together and went through every single life event together. They were the duo that you would want around you all the time. Caring, fun, loving and most of all had each other’s backs through thick and thin up until the very end. Their friendship and love for each other will live on forever.
Next to her family, Marilyn’s career was her outlet. She lived for her company. Up until the end, work and family were what kept Marilyn going. She loved to work and would tell everyone how much she loved her job. She was always so positive! Every single person that met her instantly had a smile on his or her face because of Marilyn.
While our hearts are heavy and many tears fall, we find peace in knowing heaven has gained an incredibly beautiful soul that is now pain free and happy as can be. We find peace in knowing we all have our angel watching over us forever and always. We will miss Marilyn more than words can express. Rest in Peace Mama, Wife, Best Friend, Daughter, Sister, and most of all HERO. Smile big and never stop dancing in the sky.
