Marilyn Joyce Ballard, 80, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away January 27, 2017. Marilyn was born March 29, 1936, in Barnes, Kansas. She was the daughter of the late Wilbert and Eula (Wohler) Oehler.
Marilyn graduated from Barnes Rural High School in 1954. Marilyn married Virgil Dean Ballard on June 20, 1954. They began their life together at the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. They moved to Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, TX, where their first son, Doug was born. In 1957, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas where Marilyn worked at Beech Aircraft Corporation and Cessna Aircraft Corporation. In 1960, their second son David was born.
In 1966, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Marilyn worked at Armco Steel for 20 years in the traffic, shipping, and accounting office where she retired in 1987. Her greatest pride and joy was being around her family and four grandchildren, Matt, and the triplets: Spencer, Connor, and Emily. Marilyn enjoyed traveling, country music shows, and attending her grandchildren's sporting activities. Marilyn also enjoyed going to the family farm and boating at the lake. Marilyn loved her hometown teams - the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Marilyn was a member of the McMurry United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Missouri, Mother’s Club Boy Scout Troop 707, and Gracemor Thursday Night Out.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, Virgil; daughter-in-law Anita; and grandchildren Matt, Spencer, Connor, and Emily Ballard; her sister Orpha (Loy) Carlson, brother Orlin (Sandra) Oehler, sister- in- law Betty Wohler (Kenneth) and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn is proceeded in death by her two sons David and Doug, and her sisters Norma Bergin and Verla Long.
Visitation is Friday, February 3, 2017, from 6-8 pm at Terrace Park Funeral Home 801 NW 108 St., Kansas City, Missouri 64155. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11 am at Terrace Park. Burial following. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been requested to McMurry United Methodist Church, 25 N.
