Mae Belle Clevenger

Mae Belle Clevenger, 94, of Liberty Missouri, passed away on August 18, 2024. Born December 7,1929, to Blunt and Ethel Clawson, she was the eldest of 11 children. Mae was the first person for generations in her family to graduate high school. She lived with her family on a tobacco farm in Carter County Tennessee and began working at the age of 6 years old. After graduating high school, she worked under J. Edgar Hoover in the finger printing department for the FBI. Mae also worked for the Federal Reserve.

She married Sammy Clevenger who served in the Air Force for more then 20 years, traveling throughout the United States and Spain. Mae brought 2 children into the world and enjoyed being a mother to her loving daughter and son.

After Sam passed, she spent time with her son and traveled through nearly all 50 states with him. Mae had a green thumb envied by all, and was very fond of her coffee and biscuits and gravy.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband: Sam Clevenger, siblings: Madge Rhodes, Robert Jr. Clawson, James Clawson, Fred Clawson, Carroll Clawson, Donice James, Sue Fletcher, and Dennis Clawson.

She is survived by her daughter: Joni (Walt) Gillispie, son: Jimmy Ray Clevenger, grandson: Zachary Gillispie; brothers: Raymond (Bernadette) Clawson and L.D. (Loretta) Clawson; and sister in law: Linda Clawson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mae will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Prior to her passing she had requested that no services be held.
