Lynn Diane Bisbee Banks, born October 31, 1955, to Lois Thorne and Robert Bisbee, passed away on February 27, 2025, after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Lynn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a devout Christian. Lynn was intelligent and fiercely independent. She was beautiful, curious, and unique. She was nurturing. There was no one in the world who was or is any longer her.
Lynn was Tri-State Swimming Champion and record holder for the butterfly, freestyle, and relay events. She represented Old Pike Country Club and YMCA North and went 4 years of club swimming without losing a race. She participated in the Junior Olympics twice.
Lynn attended North Kansas City High School and graduated in 1974. Beyond swimming, she was a Hornet Cheerleader and honor roll student.
She earned a National Merit Scholarship and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta.
She later transferred to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, to begin her sophomore year. She graduated in 1978 with a major in economics and a minor in language.
Following her graduation, Lynn embarked on a year long backpacking trip across Europe. Her travels included working as a nanny and skiing in Val D'Isere, performing traditional grape stomping while working at a vineyard, and visiting Soviet Russia. She tracked down a Fiat x19 for her father to import to the United States, later becoming her own.
Upon her return, she traveled the United States as a representative for StairGlide.
On December 8th, 1980, she married the love of her life, Roger Banks and created a loving family. With her first child at age 27 and her last at age 43, she was a devoted mother to Adrienne (1982), Marshal (1985), Hoyt (1987), Greer (1995), and Thorne (1999).
She is the proud grandmother of Violet, Charles, Wallace, Mya, Abbie, Nora, Hazel, Warner, and Sloane.
For over 40 years, Lynn served as the Chief Financial Officer and secretary of Banks Pool and Spa and Banks Swimming Pool Company with her husband Roger.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Banks; her stepmother, Carole Bisbee; her sisters, Pam Watt, Jan Lebow, and Traci Mehki; her children, Adrienne (spouse Joseph Turner), Marshal (spouse Holli Goode Banks), Hoyt (spouse Kyley Burton Banks), Greer (spouse Melissa Arroyo Banks), and Thorne (spouse Angela Fornelli Banks); her grandchildren, Violet, Charles, Wallace, Mya, Abbie, Nora, Hazel, Warner, and Sloane. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
In true selfless fashion, Lynn said she did not care that her life may be ending but how her life ending would affect those who care about her. She said she looks at her death like a perennial rose or flower. One spring, the flower just doesn’t come back.
A memorial service will be held in Lynn’s honor at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave on Thursday, March 6, 2025: Visitation at 10 a.m., Funeral services at 11 a.m. Interment follows at Terrace Park. You may also join the family for a Celebration of Life later that day in Sundance Ridge of Stilwell, Kansas.
