Lucille Johnson-Barnes, age 91, of Kansas City, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Northcare Hospice House. She was born July 11, 1923 in McCurtain, Haskell County, Oklahoma to Joseph and Elvira Williams.
After graduation from North Kansas City High School in 1942 she worked as a secretary for several companies retiring after 25 years as the Sr. Administrative Secretary for University of Health Sciences (now Kansas City University of Medicine & Bio Sciences.
After Lucille’s first husband, Rev. J. Calvin Johnson retired from pastoring Southern Baptist churches and teaching in Independence, they became members of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Here Lucille had the privilege of teaching adult class and being a leader in the Grief Support ministry. Rev. J. Calvin Johnson passed away in 1986 after 44 years of marriage.
After her marriage to Dr. Forest Barnes in November 2001, she became a member of Winnwood Baptist Church in Kansas City. Forrest passed away on November 23, 2006, just after their fifth anniversary on November 3.
She is survived by her daughters: Karen, Sharon Reneé, three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; she is survived by the Barnes family: Leiann, Jana and Phil.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 11 AM until the time of service at 12 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO.
