Loyd Brown

Loyd Ray Brown, 89, of Gladstone, MO, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021. He was born February 21, 1932 in Stewartsville, MO.

Loyd graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1950, played 4 years of football at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and then served 2 years in the US Air Force at Whiteman Air Force Base. He was married to Eva Bradley Brown, March 8, 1952 and they settled in the Kansas City area where Loyd sold typewriters for IBM and then became an investment/securities broker. The joy of Loyd’s life was his family, and he was an avid supporter of all of his kids’ many activities, particularly their sporting events, which eventually carried over through the years into the lives of his grandkids. He spent countless hours in the bleachers cheering them all on!

But one of the most notable examples of his love for his family was demonstrated in the way he lovingly helped his father care for his elderly mother at home in the months leading up to her death. A few short years later, he was called upon again to provide that same loving care for his beloved wife, Eva, as she battled ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, which claimed her life in 1995 at age 63.

Over the years, Loyd spoke many words of wisdom, instruction, love, and encouragement (as well as a few stern rebukes when needed!) to his children and grandchildren. But the most important words he spoke were when he repeated, in the latter days leading up to his death, the same proclamation he had made many years earlier at his Baptism. He said, “Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior…” Thus, into Our Lord and Savior’s merciful hands we release you, Dad, with hearts full of love and appreciation as we pray, “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Amen…”

Loyd was preceded in death by his wife: Eva Bradley Brown; his parents: Everett O. Brown and Roma Louise Brown; 2 brothers: Everett “Junior” Brown and Gene Brown; and one grandson: Connor McCullough.

Survivors include one sister: Corrine (Tempel) Riekhof of Salt Lake City, UT; as well as his four children: Scott (Sara) Brown of Kansas City, MO; Leslie (James) McCullough of Stilwell, KS; Eileen Brown of Kansas City, MO; and Brooks (Amy) Brown of Kansas City, MO. Along with 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services for Loyd will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on September 20, 2021 . Visitation from 10:00-11:00am. Memorial Service will be at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization, Meals on Wheels, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64116.
