Louis R. Martens, 91, of Kansas City, passed away April 19, 2023. He was born August 29, 1931, in Rising City, Nebraska to the late John and Hildegard (Rathje) Martens. Louis was united in marriage to Margaret Ellen Boles, on January 22,1955, in National City, California and made their home in Kansas City. Together, they had four children.
Louis grew up on the family farm outside of Rising City and eventually joined the Navy serving during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea. After moving to Kansas City, Louis worked as a sheet metal mechanic for Trans World Airlines for 34 years.
After retiring, he and Margaret enjoyed spending time cruising to tropical destinations. When not traveling, Louis enjoyed spending time at home with family, working in the yard, maintaining the cars, watching westerns, sitcoms, and sipping on a cold beverage.
Louis is survived by his children: Mark Martens (Cathy) of Ames, Iowa, Michael Martens (Rhonda) of North Kansas City, Deborah Lindhorst (Scott) of Kansas City, Bob Martens (Janelle) of Platte County; grandchildren: Molly Martens, Matthew Martens, Austin (Aubrey) Martens, Nicholas Martens, Grace Martens, Erin (Zach) Waranch, Amy (Zach) Hutcherson, Jackson Martens and Luke Martens. He is also survived by brother: Harold (JoAnn) Martens; and sisters: Irene Jones, Mary Hoffman and Luella Gable.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Margaret; brother: Lawrence Martens; sister: Ruth Want Weber; brother-in-laws: Ivan Want, Merlyn Hoffman, Gary Jones, Donald Gable and Harvey Weber; sister-in-laws: Wanda Martens, Charlotte Martens; and grandchild Joshua Martens.
The family would like to thank the following organizations for providing loving care to Louis the last years of his life: Northland Meals on Wheels, Linden Woods Village, Anthology of Burlington Creek and Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
