Lisa Diane Shinn, 65, of Smithville, Missouri, passed away on August 31, 2023. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 7th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Family Worship Center (98 Stonebridge Lane, Smithville MO 64089) followed by an inurnment ceremony at the Terrace Park Cemetery (801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO 64155) and then a luncheon at Family Worship Center. No visitation will be held.
Lisa was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 29, 1958, the second of four children of Loueva Jeanne (Jones) and William Wayne Shinn. She grew up in Gladstone, Missouri, and during this time she enjoyed horseback riding, being with friends, waterskiing, and swimming on the Sun ‘n Surf Swim Team.
Lisa graduated from Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri in 1976. She attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, from which she graduated. Following graduation, Lisa became a social worker for the State of Missouri and then worked at Fred Pryor Seminars company.
Lisa married her high school sweetheart John Mahoney on May 15, 1988 and resided in Smithville. When her daughter Anna was born, Lisa dedicated herself to ensuring Anna, her family, and friends felt boundless love and support. Lisa’s smile lit up rooms, her wisdom guided many, and her hugs offered comfort. Her home was a haven of warmth and acceptance, where laughter flowed freely. Her garden and beloved dog Cash further attested to her kind spirit.
Lisa lovingly served as a caregiver to her father during his final illness. She remained active in her church and enjoyed giving back to communities near and far.
Lisa is survived by her husband, daughter, son-in-law, her three siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nephew and many beloved cousins. Lisa was preceded in death by her father.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Compassion International (www.compassion.com).
Lisa leaves a legacy of indelible love and kindness that will live on in everyone she knew. We thank the Lord as he welcomes home our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin.
