Linda Hayes Pope passed away on September 29, 2015, after a courageous fight with brain cancer. Her heart is now at peace in the arms of her daughter, Michele Christine, who preceded her in death on May 16, 2002.
Linda was born on December 10, 1949, in Toronto, Canada. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Jim, and their daughter, Jennifer Lyn Walters (Pope). She leaves behind her beautiful grandchildren, Peyton, Michele’s daughter, and Jennifer’s twin boys, George and Carter. Her mother, Betty Iraschko (Smith) of Vancouver, British Columbia, and brothers and sisters: Gary (British Columbia), Heather (Hawaii), Jolene (Independence), Jeff (Kansas City), Greg (Florida), Karen (Independence) and Nancy (California), as well as many other dear family members and friends.
She retired from the North Kansas City School District after 26 years. The most important thing to Linda was her family. She loved doing things with Jenny, Michele and her grandchildren. Her favorite past times included taking snorkeling trips, traveling, swimming with her grandchildren, watching Peyton’s activities, going with George & Carter to Disney World, watching their sports games and making quilts. She treasured every moment she spent with them. Her most favorite words to hear were, “I love you, MaMaw.”
After losing her daughter, Michele, she looked at life differently. No matter how much time had passed, she still missed Michele every day. As Linda said, “Please don’t mourn my death because I am now with Michele.”
