Leo Albrecht

Leo J. Albrecht, 87 of Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at home. He was born August 27, 1930 on a farm North of Herington, Kansas, the son of John F. and Alma (Rindt) Albrecht. He attended St. John’s Lutheran grade school and graduated from Herington High School in 1948. He graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in 1953 with a BBA degree in Business Administration. While attending Washburn, he was affiliated with Alpha-Delta fraternity; Washburn players, Washburn singers, and the Washburn Business Association. Upon graduation, he was called to active duty into the U.S. Army and sent to Korea. He was honorably discharged from the Army and the Kansas National Guard upon his return to the United States.

He married Edwina Duren on February 23, 1958 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. Mr. Albrecht was a marketing representative for 36 years in the states of Kansas and Missouri, retiring from Texaco Oil Company in 1992. During his employment, he lived in Wichita, KS, Chillicothe, St. Joseph and Kansas City, MO.

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kansas City and King of Kings Lutheran Church for over 30 years. He was a choir member for most of these years. He was a member of Liberty Hills Country Club, the V.F.W., and Staley Hills Golf Club.

He is survived by daughter, Susan Hevalow & husband Jim of Kearney, MO; 3 sons, John E. & wife Jo of San Francisco, CA, Bruce & wife Pat of Midland, MI and David & wife Cathy of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Sally, Jenny and Kevin Albrecht, Brett Hevalow, and Alison Albrecht; a brother, Earl Albrecht and wife Irma of Wichita, KS and best friend Patricia LaCalamito of the home.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Edwina, a brother, Oscar D. Albrecht and a grandson, Andrew Albrecht.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155; funeral services will be Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10 AM at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1701 NE 96th St., Kansas City, MO; interment with military honors to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to KC Honor Flight, King of Kings Lutheran Church or to a charity of choice.
