Leland Richard Welty, 83, of Gladstone, Mo passed away July 27, 2015. Funeral services are 1:00 pm Friday July 31st at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2003 NE Englewood Rd. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at Terrace Park Lakeside Chapel, 169 Hwy & Shoal Creek Parkway, with a Mic-O-Say ceremony at 7:30 pm. Burial in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the church or Boy Scouts of America Camping Fund.
Leland was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was 1949 graduate of Fremont High School in Fremont, Nebraska, and an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA for 35 years at the Kansas City Control Center. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Northland Optimist Club, and was involved with the Boys Scouts of America for many years, where he was a member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say. On June 17, 1950, Leland married Beverly Jensen. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, a son, Mitchel Welty, and son in law, Michael T. Brixey. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Beverly J. Welty, children, Norman Welty, Carol (Michael) Poland, Kimberly Brixey, Jim (Nancy) Welty, sister, Irvina Hardy-Kucera, 10 grandchildren, Alan, Sarah, Jacqueline, Leland, Lennon, Amanda, Rosco, Connor, Carly, Noah, and 6 great grandchildren, Michael, Victoria, Amy, Haley, Nora and Jude.
