Laura Lea Dunkin, 81, of North Kansas City, passed away June 30, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, July 9 at Terrace Park Cemetery with Celebration of Life to follow at from 12-5pm at the City of Glenaire City Hall/Clubhouse, 309 Smiley Road, Glenaire, MO 64068. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to NorthCare Hospice House, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64116.
Laura was born on December 19, 1939 in Brunswick, MO, to Ernest and Laura Elizabeth (Richardson) Straub. She was a graduate of Mendon High School. She met her future husband, Carl, after moving to Kansas City and they were married on November 10, 1961. Laura then became a stay-at-home mom, raising her family while also doing various jobs: taking in laundry, babysitting, and running paper routes with her kids. She had worked at CVS Pharmacy for 28 years. Laura enjoyed bowling, BINGO, and reading, but above all else she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Laura is survived by her husband, Carl E. Dunkin; children: Dennis Rone, Laura Rood, Carl L. Dunkin, Jr., James Dean Dunkin, Patricia Lynn Blackburn, Brian Edward Dunkin, and Mary McCrackin; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a brother, Henry Straub; and three sisters: Edna Levell, Margaret Drew, and Della Mae Cunningham.
