Larry Russell

October 22, 1946 — August 18, 2017

Lawrence E. “Larry” Russell, 70, of Overland Park, KS, passed away August 18, 2017.  A memorial service will be 7:00 pm, Tuesday Aug. 22nd at Community Covenant Church (15700 W 87th St Pkwy, Lenexa, KS).  Visitation from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Community Covenant Church, Royal Family Kids Camp of Lenexa, KS or Youthfront.

Larry was born in Kansas City, MO, to Meril and Irene Russell.  During his father’s employment with Greyhound bus lines, he spent his formative years living in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.  In 1969, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma, and afterward, served our country in Vietnam.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he became a banker in the Kansas City area.  He worked in the capital markets department for several banks, including United Missouri Bank, Commerce Bank, and Country Club Bank.  He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed cheering for the Oklahoma Sooners, Kansas City Royals, and the teams that his kids and grandkids played on.  He also enjoyed photography with his wife, Dara, and was a talented guitar player who liked jamming with friends. He enjoyed an active lifestyle, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Bob and Bonnie Hoffmeyer, and brother-in-law Bill Kirk.  He is survived by his wife Dara; daughter Kelly (Matt) Edwards; son Graham (Stacey) Russell; sister, Mary (Kevin) O’Mara; grandchildren Audrey, Jackson, Cole, Lincoln, Drake, Sawyer; sisters-in-law Tana (Eric) Cloepfil and Jody Kirk; and many nieces and nephews.  Larry will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
