Larry Engebretson

Larry Robert Engebretson, 77, of Liberty, Missouri passed away on December 16th, 2022.

Larry was born on October 22, 1945 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He was the oldest of five children born to Harold and Bernice Engebretson. After high school Larry attended Waldorf College, where he received his associate's degree. In 1966, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as a Corporal during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Larry continued his education and received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State in Agricultural Engineering. Larry married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Loveless), on June 3, 1972 in Cresco, Iowa. From this marriage they were blessed with two children. He spent many years working as an agricultural engineer in the grain industry. His career began in Minneapolis where he worked for Cargill and then later relocated to the Kansas City area where he began working for USDA/FGIS (Federal Grain Inspection Service) until he retired in October of 2010. He was also a proud 50-year member of the ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers). In his spare time, Larry enjoyed working outside, driving around the countryside looking at old barns, giving tractor rides to his grandchildren, and solving jigsaw puzzles in the winter. He and Mary have also been longtime members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Berneda J. Lawrence and Ellen H. Engebretson. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 50 years, Mary; children Leslie Wentzel and Jeffrey (Meredith) Engebretson; grandchildren, Bergen, Lena, Klara, Brenna, Braelyn, and Dane; and two brothers, Charles K. (Janice) Engebretson and Marcus R. Engebretson.

A celebration of life will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 29th, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., and burial at Terrace Park Cemetery at 1:30 p.m..
