Kenneth Christie

Kenneth Menzie Christie, 88, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was born in New Haven, CT on May 17, 1930, to Adam and Winifred (Getlin) Christie where he spent most of his childhood years.

He graduated from Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy of New York in 1952 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nautical Science. He went on to join the United States Navy, where he served during the Korean War as a 1st Division Officer on the U.S.S. Yorktown until 1954.

He met his future wife, Ann Marie of New York during his Kings Point years and was told by her, “the sea or me” which he took to heart and chose her. They were united in marriage on September 1, 1956. They lived in State College, Pennsylvania as he completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration at Penn State University. Ken began work for International Multifoods as a plant manager which took him and his family on an amazing journey over the next 37 years. His love of traveling on the sea was now realized on land; his work taking them to Buffalo, Detroit, Caracas and Valencia Venezuela, Minneapolis, Kansas City, MO, Saginaw Michigan and Manhattan, KS. He retired in 1995, from Quaker Oats, in Manhattan, Kansas. He took his wife on their final move together to The Villages, FL where he remained after Ann’s passing in 2004. He moved to Lenexa, KS in 2015, to be closer to his children.

Ken was an active member of the Lutheran Church throughout his life. Most recently, First Lutheran Church of Manhattan, KS and Hope Lutheran in Florida. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge, sailing, walking and reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ann. He is survived by his children, Kathi (Kent) McCosh and Rob (Valerie) Christie; his four grandchildren, Maddie McCosh, Michael McCosh, Chris (Cheyenne) Rolon and Austin Rolon; and one great grandchild, Parker Rolon. He also leaves behind many friends who will all truly miss him.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Terrace Park Lakeside Chapel with Rev. Harold Dwight officiating. A gathering will be held on Saturday, prior to the service, at 9:30 a.m. at Terrace Park Lakeside Chapel. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made out to the Alzheimer’s association of your choice or the Salvation Army. Share online condolences at TerraceparkFuneralHome.com.
