Katie Letcher

January 20, 1936 — October 31, 2012

Lura Katherine (Wright) Letcher, 76, passed October 31, 2012.  She was born January 20, 1936 to Charles and Kay Wright in Washington DC.  Katie was a graduate of Westport High School in Kansas City, MO and earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Drake University.  She married Joseph Letcher (deceased 1990) in 1964. Katie started her career as a calligraphist for Hallmark, later working for The Daily Standard in Excelsior Springs, MO and The Loveland Reporter Herald of Loveland, CO as a newspaper layout artist.  After retiring in 2001, she worked at the Mid-Continent Public Library in Parkville, MO.  Katie was a lifetime baseball fan and enjoyed the arts and athletics.  She obtained a pilots license earlier in life and enjoyed flying and being a member of The Ninety-Nines, an organization of women pilots promoting women in aviation.  She is survived by a brother Charles Wright (wife Mildred), son Michael Letcher (wife Kim), daughter Tricia Dickens (husband Brian) and son Charles Letcher.  Surviving grandchildren are Ashley Atha (husband Riley), Kirk, Dayle, & Jaclyn Dickens, and Jackson & Benjamin Letcher.  Katie's kind ways will be missed greatly.  In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to KC Hospice.  Memorial visitation will be held Thursday November 8th from 5-7 pm at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St KCMO.
