Kathryn Loker Simpson, 54, died peacefully at her home in Baltimore, MD on June 29, 2017, after bravely battling cervical cancer for seven months. She was surrounded by her life partner, Scott Rosenberger, and her three children, Taylor, Benjamin and Audrey Simpson.
Kathryn also leaves her mother, Sallie Zajic Reynolds, sister Toni Lynne Loker and her husband Mike Ryan, brother Michael D. Loker and his two daughters, Erin and Bethany, brother Evan Loker and his wife Alexandra Loker and her aunt, Patricia Zajic.
Kathryn was born December 29, 1962, in Kansas City and raised in Missouri. She received a journalism degree from the University of Missouri and a law degree from the University of Maryland, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. Most recently, Kathryn served as a Deputy Chief Counsel in the Office of General Counsel at the Department of Veterans Affairs. An excellent lawyer, Kathryn also provided wise leadership and guidance to those she supervised. Kathryn had a passion for her work at the VA, her friends and colleagues, and she was committed to healthy living. She practiced yoga and, at 5' 10", enjoyed playing volleyball. With her beloved partner, Scott, and her children, Kathryn traveled widely-both in the United States and abroad. Kathryn was an animal lover and owned and fostered many pets, including her favorite dog, Oz. Kathryn was an avid reader and playing word games with her children was a favorite pastime. A devoted mother, Kathryn's greatest joy was raising her three children.
A memorial service celebrating Kathryn's life was held in Baltimore late in July. Private burial will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery, in Kansas City, MO.
