- Joseph Anthony Firuccia, 94, of Gladstone, Missouri passed away on.
- Joseph was born on July 21, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the third of five children born to John Sr, and Consetta Firuccia. He attended Central High School. At the age of 18, he followed his father’s footsteps and began working for the railroad, before enlisting in the Army. During his military service Joe spent time stationed in Germany as well as fighting in the Korean War, where he received the prominent Purple Heart medal. After his honorable discharge he returned to his position at the railroad, where he worked as a master mechanic and later, an inspector until his retirement. Joe married the love of his life, Nevada Burton, and from this marriage they were blessed with two children. Joe and Nevada had a passion for traveling. After retiring, they embarked on numerous adventures together, exploring different parts of the world. One place they particularly enjoyed visiting was Sante Fe in New Mexico. When he had a moment to himself, Joe could often be found tinkering or woodworking in the garage, or taking meticulous caring of his yard.
- Joseph is preceded in death by his wife, Nevada Firuccia; parents, John and Consetta Firuccia; sister, Mary Barncord; brothers, Sal, Larry, and John Jr., Firuccia; as well as his daughter in law: Brenda Firuccia. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter, Charlotte (Bob) Uptegrove, and son; Steve Firuccia; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28th, with visitation beginning at 11:00am, funeral service at 12:00pm, and private burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
