John William Pickel, 94, passed away on January 17, 2014 at Cherry Hills Community and Rehabilitation Center. John was born on June 30, 1919 in Bolivar, Missouri. Following his service with the United States Army Air Forces Technical Command during World War II, John resided in Kansas City, MO and worked for 33 years as a welder for the Parks Department of Kansas City, Missouri. Following his retirement in 1979, John enjoyed traveling, fishing, and gardening with his wife. John was lovingly devoted to his family and he will be fondly remembered for his generosity, creativity, ingenuity, happy nature, and most importantly, his story telling. John was predeceased by his wife, Laura Lovell Pickel of Kansas City, Missouri; by his parents, John Marshall Pickel and Laura Pearl (Lamb) Pickel of Bolivar, Missouri; and by a brother, Jim Pickel of Kansas City, Missouri. He is survived by his daughters Mary Ruth Toth of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, S. Ann Ford of Prairie Village, Kansas, and Jacqueline Crawford of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one niece, and three cousins. Visitation will be at 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home on Friday, January 24 with the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. The family requests donations to Barry Christian Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Greater Kansas City.
