John William Paul Sr. 87 of Gladstone, died at Ashton Court Care Center on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born in Des Moines, IA on April 19, 1927 to the late Robert O. and Verna (Doughtery) Paul.
John grew up in Harlem, MO and joined the Merchant Marines when he was just 13; he went on to join the Navy. He remained a faithful member of the VFW Post 1000 in Independence. He worked for Sloan Trucking as an over the road truck driver delivering mostly for Sears. After retiring he worked security at the Airport for 9 years. John was member of Gashland Baptist Church.
Loving Husband of nearly 26 years, Shirley (Clinkenbeard) Paul. Dear dad of Patricia Goddard, John W. (Diane) Paul II cherished grandpa of John W. (Linn) Paul III, David Goddard, Amber (Russell) Bainer and Christopher Goddard; great-grandfather of Kaycee Paul, Skyeler Paul, Colby Paul, Landon Paul, Jewell Paul, Mika Bainer, Sarah Bainer, Russell Bainer Jr, and Simon Bainer. Dear uncle of Robert O. Paul, sister Laura Mae Martin, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his first wife Alva Eileen Paul, brothers George and Robert Paul and Sister Gladys Geelan.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Terrace Park Funeral Home 801 NW 108th Street, (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek Pkwy) Kansas City, from 5-7 PM and Thursday, at the Funeral Home from 12:30 until time of service at 1:30 PM with Pastor George McDowell officiating.
