John William Nininger, 95, of Gladstone died May 22, 2015 after a brief hospitalization.
He was born August 8, 1919, in Overland Park, Kansas to Frank Ashland Nininger and
Mary Parrish Nininger.
The eldest of three children and the only son, he attended Kansas State
University after high school graduation. His college career was cut short by World
War II. In the year following Pearl Harbor, he was in the Army, serving as a radio
airman in Trinidad, Brazil and Hawaii.
Following his three years in the service, he returned to the Kansas City area
where he became an airline mechanic for Trans World Airlines. When he retired
from the airline in the 1970s he was a flight simulator technician. Over the years he
also taught electrical engineering, refrigeration and television and radio repair.
In 1947 he married the love of his life, Doris Ida Wilson. Together they had six
children, all well-loved and special to them both. In her final years, suffering from
Alzheimer's, Doris was able to remain at home thanks to his care giving. They were
married for 62 years.
