John William Merciez, 71, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2022. He was born to the late William and Beverley Merciez on November 12, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan where he called home until 1960 when his family moved to Liberty, Missouri. He married the love of his life, Sandra Walker, on May 14, 1977 and had two children.
He graduated from Liberty High School in 1970 and was employed for 28 years at the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). John held various positions and retired as a Materials Inspector.
John was a man who loved his family. He loved to spend time with his wife, children, and especially his grandsons. While he was able, John attended as many sporting and school events for his grandchildren as he could. John loved telling anyone who would listen what his grandsons were up to. In younger years you could often find him enjoying dirt bikes, yearly deer season, and camping. Weekly Saturday breakfast at a local dinner is where John talked and caught up with friends. He rarely missed this weekly tradition. Other favorite pastimes including drawing, painting, doodling, or just simply enjoying life.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife: Sandy Merciez; daughters: Melissa Merciez, and Michelle (David) Roth; grandsons: Jacob and Lucas; sister: Linda (Alan) Osterhaus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
