John Haggard Jr.

John Haggard, Jr, 96 of Liberty, MO (formerly of Lake Waukomis, MO) died at home on June 1, 2011. He was born on February 26, 1915 to John E. & Flora Foster Haggard on a farm in Lawrence County, MO. He graduated from Monett, MO High School in 1931. He moved to Kansas City in 1936 to find work. He married Jewel Rose Claunch on December 2, 1939 at Centropolis Baptist Church.In 1951 he founded Haggard Heavy Hauling (now Haggard Hauling & Rigging, Inc.) and retired in 1988. John served as an Alderman for the City of Lake Waukomis and 16 years on the Board of Directors. He was a long-time member of Park Hill Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustees. He was currently a member of Chandler Baptist Church, Liberty, MO. He was a long-time member of the Santa Fe Ramblers (Holiday Ramblers) RV Club, and traveled to all 48 continental United States. John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Haggard Elbert. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Jewel Rose Haggard, daughter, Joyce Hon (Jerry), son, John H. Haggard, five grandchildren, Rev. Jeffrey Hon (Dr. Sarah Hon), Jill Hon Saunders (Greg Lattig), Heather King (Tim), Lance Haggard (Andrea), Andrea Haggard, four great grandchildren, Michael & Rachel Hon, Austin & Leah Haggard, his brother, Harold Haggard (Pauline), and three nephews.Funeral services will be 7:30 pm Monday June 6th at Chandler Baptist Church, 11401 Highway 33, Liberty, MO, with visitation preceding the services 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Private graveside services will be at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Chandler Baptist Church (Building Fund), Liberty, MO or New Song Church, A Disciples of Christ Faith Community, PO Box 901426, Kansas City, MO, 64190-1426.
