Joanne McCleave

Joanne Rose McCleave passed away August 29, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ethlyn McCleave of Kansas City, Mo. Joanne was born in Maryville, Mo., on Sept. 11, 1934, one of nine children to Hewett and Anna McCleave. She is survived by brothers, Earl McCleave, Kansas City, John McCleave, St. Joseph, and sister, Virginia Woehr, Kansas City, Mo. She is proceeded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. She lived most of her childhood with her sister and brother-in-law, Kenneth and Frances Clymens in Clarinda, Iowa. Joanne graduated in 1955 from the Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing, Most of her 45 years of Professional Nursing Career was as Charge Nurse in the New Born Care Unit at Kansas City General (later known as Truman Medical Center). Joanne's life was dedicated to caring for others, especially her sister, Frances Clymens, Kansas City, and Evelyn Boyer, Lawrence, Kan. Her quiet, steadfast and caring personality, along with her stealthy sense of humor, will be missed by her nursing class mates, friends and family and her cat Cricket. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, with visitation at 10 a.m. at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St., Kansas City. Graveside services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 26th and Lovers Lane, St. Joseph, MO 64506. The family wishes to give special thanks to care giver Rosetta Emrich for her loving care and to Crossroads Hospice for their care and vigilance. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial donations be made to the General Hospital Memorial Nurses Scholarship Fund, UMKC, 2464 Charlotte St. Kansas City, MO 64108.
