Joan (Jo) Stark

Joan (Jo) DeFoe Stark, 81 of Kansas City, Mo passed away August 1, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:30 pm Saturday August 8th at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 169 Hwy & Shoal Creek Prkwy, visitation will precede the service 1:00 – 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Unity Church of Overland Park.
Jo was born on September 19, 1933 in Tulsa, Ok to Naomi (Shipman) and Cecil DeFoe. She grew up in Tulsa, Ok, graduating from Will Rogers High School in 1951. Jo was happily married for many years, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the country. Jo and her family moved to Kansas City, Mo in 1971. She was in real estate for a short time, then began working full time in October 1976 for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 31 as their secretary bookkeeper. She also helped out the Wardrobe Union as a dresser for several big shows at the Music Hall, Midland Theatre and Starlight Theatre over 10 years. Jo was very active in the Unity Church of Overland Park. She loved reading and writing in her journals. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Jerry Paul Stark. Survivors include her children, James (Karen) Stark, Nancye (Rick) Calkins, daughter in law, Donna Stark, sister, Louise Saunders, 6 grandchildren, Josh, Jason, Michael, Jessie, Zachary, 2 great grandchildren, and 1 on the way, niece, Kathy, nephew, Robert and many family and friends.
