Jeffrey F. Kleinow, 50, Kansas City, MO, died suddenly Tuesday, July 3rd, of apparent natural causes. Jeff was employed as a Captain on the Kansas City, MO Police Department. His law enforcement career spanned 33 years, 25 with the KCPD. Before his tenure with the KCPD he was employed as a police officer in Clear Lake and Rockwell, IA.Jeffrey was born Sept. 14, 1961, in Mason City, IA the son of Eugene and Patricia Kleinow. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1979 and on his 18th birthday he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served as a Military Policeman in various locations in the United States and South Korea. He received an Honorable Discharge in Sept. 1985. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree while working full-time. During his career in law enforcement Jeff received numerous awards and honors. He was a member of Rising Sun Masonic Lodge #13.Jeff enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley, other outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, along with a passion for history and politics.A Celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Saturday, July 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kansas City Police Academy, 6885 NE Pleasant Valley RD. Per Jeff's wishes he chose cremation and Inurnment will be held at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, South Federal at 14th Street in Mason City, IA on Monday, July 9th, 2012. Jeff is survived by daughters Katherine and Allison Kleinow, Fiancé Jennifer Sanford, each of Kansas City; his parents of Mason City, sister Laura (Steve) Wheeler of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother Bradley Kleinow of Mason City; nephew and niece Stuart and Stephanie Wheeler, several aunts, uncles and cousins, lifelong friend Michael (Judy) Mariner of Kansas City, his friends and co-workers on the Kansas City Police Department, and his loyal dog Buddy.In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jeff's honor to the Kansas City Police Department Police Athletic League to support youth programs, 1125 Locust, Kansas City, Missouri, 64106.
