Jean Hart Courter, 86, of Kansas City, MO died at home on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. She was born in Renfro Valley, MO on January 31, 1932 to the late Howard and Christena (Crouse) Hart.
Jean was a fun loving, dynamic woman. She left her home in Renfro to come to Kansas City to further her education. She worked for many years as a secretary for an insurance company. She overcame cancer, the death of her husband, son and other family—all with a smile on her face. Her most cherished times were those spent with family and friends. She and her late husband Kanan “Frank” loved to take the grandchildren camping, teaching them to fly fish, water ski, tubing, enjoy the outdoors, and each other’s company. She would let the grandchildren choose what she would make for dinner when they would visit—which was often.
She is survived by her daughters Christena (Les) Weaver and Betty (Dennis) Barnett; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Frank; her son and David F. Courter.
Friends and family will gather on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 9:30-11 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. A graveside service will be Saturday, at 1:30 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cainsville, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans at DAV.org.
