James Arvy McGhghy, 69, passed away May 29, 2011 from his 9 year battle with cancer. Jim was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all those who are still waiting to join him in the afterlife; wife Dot, daughter Vicky, son Robbie, sister Leota, his daughters-in-law Ginger and Terrie, his grandchildren Sylvia, Kristen, Aimee, Aleisha, Allison, Michael, Ceirra and Lorrie, great-grandsons Draven and Aiden James, due in July, niece Lynn, nephew Keith, great niece Breana and great nephew Tyler. The ones waiting to welcome him are his dad Arvy, mom Devota, stepdad Bob Shelton, brother Gary and his two sons Larry and Mike. His faithful companion Nikky has also been waiting patiently for him. Born February 28, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas, Jim graduated from high school in 1960 and retired from GM after 30 years of dedicated service. He and Dot married July 20, 1972; this year would have marked their 39th anniversary. Jim love his computer and his motorcycles. He belonged to two computer clubs, Commodore Computer Club, later know as the Northland Computer Club, serving as an officer and hosting their message board, and Linux Club of Kansas City. As a member of the MO-KAN Moto Guzzi Motorcycle Club, he served as treasurer, secretary, web designer and as a one-man newsletter team for many years. Over the years, he had many Moto Guzzi motorcycles. He also had many cars, but his favorite was his 1965 black Riviera. His other favorite vehicles were his 2005 Beetle, 1989 Jeep truck and his 75th Anniversay Moto Guzzi. Jim was a great prankster. He would often sneak up on Dot when she was doing dishes and say something to her to startle her. when Kristen bought her new car, he confinced her that he had hit it. He would often tease Leota about her "accent" when she had moved across the country to California. He loved his family but cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren and great grandchild-to-be. He even wore a cap which reads, "If I had know grandkids were this much fun I would have had them first!"Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, June 1 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home.
