Upon graduating from Henrietta High School in 1944 he enrolled at the University of Missouri. In 1945 he enlisted in the United States Airforce and was stationed in Gaum where he was a Military Police. Jim returned to M.U. and graduated with an MBA in 1950. Jim moved to Kansas City and began his career in accounting at Arthur Anderson before moving to Long Construction Company. He received his Certified Public Account in 1959. Jim was an avid reader his entire life. He loved to read history books and the Bible. He was an athlete and a great competitor- something he passed on to his children. He was a member of the YMCA and one of their best handball players. He was also a great fast pitch softball pitcher. Jim coached his church teams and played into his 60s. He also enjoyed travelling. Every summer the family would take a two week vacation that he had meticulously planned out. We travelled all over the United States, Canada and Mexico. Later in his life he was able to visit Teresa in Germany and Austria. He was very involved in Discipleship at the Kansas City Baptist Temple where he was a member for 60+ years. He enjoyed teaching others about discipleship and this allowed him to go to Romania, Taiwan and Argentina. He even took lessons to learn Spanish and Chinese. Jim was a life-long student who loved learning.
