IRENE S. COFFMAN December 26, 1916 December 21, 2012Just five days shy of her 96th birthday, Irene S. Coffman (95) passed away on Friday night, December 21, 2012. She had lived independently in her own home until just one week prior to her passing. She was born Irene Sophie Miller in St. James, Minnesota on December 26, 1916 to parents James and Emma Miller.She married Hobert "Doc" Coffman in 1945 and they had a long, happy marriage of 50 years. With the marriage came a much beloved stepdaughter, Sandra Kay Swope.She began working for the Luzier cosmetics company in March 1948 as a machine operator. Irene was eventually promoted to Manufacturing Supervisor in 1969 and retired after 26 years of service in 1973.Irene was known for her great laugh and scrappy personality. She and her husband Doc spent many hours enjoying country-western music together. Despite her thin frame, she never missed an opportunity to go out for breakfast, lunch or, dinner; she used to regularly say "I'm an eater!" She loved red cardinals. She was a longtime member of Avondale Methodist Church.Irene is survived by her youngest sister Sue Dove of San Antonio, TX; brother-in-law Clarence H. Hoffman of Kansas City, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Hobert "Doc" Coffman in 1996, her stepdaughter, Sandy, and her sisters Inez Flogstad of St. James , MN and Ella Hoffman of Kansas City, MO. The family requests that donations be made to Northcare Hospice, 2900 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, MO 64116, in lieu of flowers or other gifts. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery Interment Chapel, 169 Highway at 108th Street North in Kansas City, MO. Visitation will precede services 10:30 - 11:00 AM.
