Hugh Edward Shubert

July 19, 1929 — January 12, 2023

St. Peters

Hugh "Ed" Shubert, 93, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 at home in St. Peter's, Missouri, where he resided with his son for three years after his lifelong residence in the Kansas City area.

Ed was born on July 19, 1929 in Liberty, MO to parents William Leroy and Mary May Shubert. Rather than graduating from high school, Ed made the decision to enlist in the United States Army, where he served for 9 years and was honorably discharged in 1955.

On August 23, 1958 Ed married Laveta Stock. They raised four children, Thomas Whitaker (deceased 2012); Darrell Shubert (deceased 2007); Teresa Dodd of Kansas City; and Randy Shubert of St. Peters, MO.

After the death of Laveta, in April of 1998, Ed met Thelma Creason and was blessed with a second marriage of 18 years. Thelma passed away December 2020.

Ed was predeceased by his three sisters; Betty, Nancy, and Carolyn all of Liberty, MO. He was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ed maintained several jobs, but spent most of his livelihood in the sign painting and printing business working for Stouse Sign Co., of which he retired from after 18 years in 1988.

Ed was a dedicated 50 year member of the Freemasons and was a Past Master of Sheffield Lodge. In addition to being a 32 degree mason, he was also District Deputy Grand Lecture several times over and very dedicated to the craft. Ed served as Worthy Patron in the Eastern Star alongside of both Laveta and again with Thelma.

Ed is gone, but not forgotten. Ed is not here, but in a much grander place. He is not with us on this Earth, but is abiding in that home not made with hands, that mansion in Heaven for eternity with Christ Jesus.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO, on Tuesday, January 17th, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm.
