Hiram P. Gensler Jr., 91 of Kansas City, MO died at St. Luke’s Hospital on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 16, 1923 to the late Hiram P. Gensler Sr. and Anna Lillian Smith Gensler.
He was a concrete finisher for many years, and laid the foundation at Gashland United Methodist Church where he was a member. He was a Boy Scout then Eagle Scout for more than 72 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II; getting married to Marirose Lawrence on November 15, 1942, the day before he entered the service. He was known as the “Honey Man” with his Hi’s Honey. After Marirose passed away on September 15, 2008, he started a website www.MyAngelMarirose.net where he would post poetry about his wife and his life.
He is survived by his children: Larry (Cindy) Gensler; Linda (Richard) Doak; Ed (Gayle) Gensler; Gail Bowen; Mark (Jennifer) Gensler; and Don (Mary) Gensler. His 15 grandchildren: JoAnne Burns, Steve (Katharine) Gensler, Karen McConnell, Cheryl (Steve) Scott, Travis (Bree) Gensler, Tiffany Gensler, Trevor (Angie) Gensler, Tyra (Nathan) Bruns, Trista Gensler, Amy (Jeff) Miner, Paige Gensler, Aaron Gensler, Jordan Varvel, Shane Mendez, and Kyle Mendez; 16 great-grandchildren: Miles, Will, Ainsley, Ethan, Sean, David, Bailey, Peyton, Grayson, Brody, Tenley, Jackson, Carter, Jamie, Jaden and Jaycie. He was a dear brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Gashland United Methodist Church 7715 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64118 from 5-7 PM with a Boy Scout Mic-O-Say ceremony at 7 PM. Pastor Laura Murphy will officiate the Funeral service on Wednesday at 11 AM at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
