Henry Muñoz, 73, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on June 28, 2019.
Mr. Muñoz served in the U.S. Army for two years and began his civilian career as a Civil Engineer in April of 1972. After serving as Operations and Maintenance Manual and Technical Reports Unit Head in the Kansas City District, he accepted a Construction Claims/Modification position with the St. Louis District in June of 1974. He returned to is former position in the Kansas City District in April of 1975. In June of 1983, he transferred to a Project Manager position in the newly formed Superfund Branch. He was promoted to Chief, Superfund Section in June 1987 and oversaw the Corps’ Superfund study and design assistance for five EPA regions. He transferred to Chief, Emergency Management Division in January 1990. While in Emergency Management he assisted in the development of the bi-state mutual aid compacts and oversaw the 1993 flood fighting and recovery efforts. In February 1994, he transferred to the Design Branch as Assistant Chief. He accepted his current position as Special Assistant to the Chief, Engineering and Construction Division in December 1995 and served as Quality Manager for ISO 9001 activities. Henry retired in September of 2006. His life away from the Corps centered around his wife, Helen, and wife-homemaker-mother-daughter, Michelle. Michelle is currently junior business major at the University of Missouri Columbia, planning to graduate in May 2006. Her graduating in three years helps average out her father’s five year effort.
Funeral services will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery ~ Lakeside Chapel on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 2:00pm, with visitation at 1:00pm and burial immediately following.
