Helen Elizabeth Shawver passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Terrace Park, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155. Funeral services are private.
Helen was born on February 2, 1937, in Kansas City, MO to Arthur and Louise Wilson. She married Robert Shawver when she was 16 years old and lived in a variety of cities, while Bob played Minor league baseball.
She was the shining example of a loving mother and dedicated wife. She never missed a school activity, swim meet, baseball game, football game or basketball game. And for all the many, many practices, Helen was the UBER.
In addition to her family, Helen loved to watch sporting events. Her favorite sport was football, especially her beloved Chiefs. She enjoyed reading and the simple beauty of colorful flowers and dragonflies.
After raising her children, Helen worked as a sales assistant for Coldwell Banker where she enjoyed helping others.
If her children were her pride and joy, her granddaughters were her heart. From the day they were born and all the days that followed, each moment spent with Grandma was a special one. She loved them, encouraged them, and forever created wonderful memories. We were lucky to share each daughter’s wedding day with Grandma.
Her best friend was her sister. While many miles apart, they stayed very close and connected through daily phone calls, Facetime and email messages always giving each other something to smile about.
The family would like to thank the staff at NorthCare Hospice House for the gentle care of Helen. Thanks to all the staff at Oxford Grand, especially Jennifer, Jodie, Carissa, Kim, Reshmi, Michelle, Amanda, Anita, Janet and Chef Rob for their care and attention over the past few years. Helen was loved by many residents at Oxford and always gave a warm welcome to new residents joining the community.
Helen is proceeded in death by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Susan Shawver and brothers-in-laws Glenn Zeller and Jack Long. She is survived by her son, Kirk and wife, Joanna; granddaughter Samantha Shawver and husband, Charlie Johnson; granddaughter Carly Shawver and husband, Kyle Wadlow; a dear sister, Ethel Zeller of Vernice, FL; a sister-in-law, Helen Long of Branson, MO; a special niece Terry (Mark) Featherston and nephew Steven Zeller all of Venice, FL; nephew David (Mimi) Zeller of Dallas, TX and many great nieces and nephews.
In memory of Helen, we ask that you make quality time to spend with your families and create memories of love that last forever
