Helen McDowell

Helen Lorene McDowell, 92, of Plattsburg, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017. Helen was born September 21, 1925 to Tilford S. and Goldie M. (Howard) Ragsdale in Marionville, Missouri. She went to Benton High School, and on April 4, 1942 married her childhood friend Harold McDowell. The couple spent a lot of time dancing. Helen was a homemaker her whole life and cherished time spent with her family. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas. She enjoyed  baking homemade crème puffs and pies. The couple enjoyed time traveling to California, Texas, and Minnesota. In her free time Helen also enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and fishing.  Her favorite saying was “ A place for everything and everything in its place.”

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, both parents, her son Darrel McDowell, her daughter Judy Miller, sister Pauline, and brother Tilford Ragsdale.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda McDowell of Kansas City, MO, Sister, Shirley (Sam) Caraway of Modesto, CA, grandsons; Kevin Ford of Plattsburg, MO, and Rodney (Raylene) McDowell of Gladstone, MO, granddaughters; Lori (Rodney) Foster of Excelsior Springs, MO and Rochelle (Jim) Ecton, of Parkville, MO. Also surviving is 13 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 10 AM with funeral services immediately following at 11 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO.
