HELEN ALICE DEIS
Helen Alice Deis, 92, of KCMO went to be with the Lord November 22, 2015. She was born September 24, 1923 in Miami, Missouri, the daughter of James and Grace Collins. She grew up in a rural Missouri farming community with three brothers, Ralph, George and Junior. She attended Gilliam, MO public schools and Warrensburg State University.
She was united in marriage to Charles R. Deis on September 6, 1942. While Charles was serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Helen worked for Saconoy Vacuum Oil Company of Kansas City. When the war ended they lived in Sunflower, Kansas while Charles completed his education at the University of Kansas. After his graduation, they moved to Kansas City, KS where he was employed by General Motors Corp. The family attended the Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, KS.
In 1953, Charles and Helen built a new home in Clay County, which would be their life-long home residence. Their marriage of 70 years was blessed with three sons, Charles, Gregory and James. Charles and Helen were members of the Gashland Presbyterian Church since 1955. Both were active in the life and growth of the church. Helen served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. She participated in PTA activities at her son’s grade schools and was President of the Oakwood Manor PTA.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles and three brothers. She is survived by her three sons and their families, including five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM November 28, 2015 at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church located at 8029 N. Oak Street, KCMO 64118, with visitation one hour before the service. Her burial will follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s Building Fund.
