Helen B. Burris, 100 years old, (would have been 101 years old in about 6 weeks) Westbrook Care Center Kearney, Mo. passed away Sunday November 8, 2020 in Liberty, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 10:30am to 11am at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO in the main chapel. Her funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial with graveside service will be at Terrace Park Cemetery following the funeral service.
Helen was born on December 24, 1919 in Elmore City, Oklahoma. She married Charles A. Burris January 22, 1946 in Richmond, California. They had three children Charlotte, Bill and Mick. She loved raising the children and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family was so dear to her. Helen, whom was lovingly given the nickname, “Bunny” by her mother, Della when she was just a little girl. Helen enjoyed crocheting and had a green thumb. She loved all different kinds of flowers. After high school she and her girlfriend Elzada went to California to find work. She found work as a welder, one of her jobs was welding on ships that were used during World War II!
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Clancy and Della Sweet Simmons Pyle; her husband of 68 years, Charles Albert Burris; 5 siblings, Sammy Pyle, Burl Pyle, Billy Joe Pyle, Nona Daniels, and Madelyn Davis; a grandson, Clint R. Burris; and one great-great grandson , Eli Adrian Yebra.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her children: Charlotte (Dan) Duane of Parkville, Mo., Bill (Linda) Burris of Holt, Mo., and Mick Burris of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren: Tonya L. Burris Hartle, Clint R. Burris, Micky R. Burris, Aaron Duane, and Brian Duane, and two step-granddaughters Michelle Hughes, and Angela Ohme;13 great grandchildren: 1 great-great granddaughter Allyie L. Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
