Harold was born on February 21, 1925 on a farm south of Concordia, MO in Johnson County, the oldest child of John William "Bill" and Esther May Kresse Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Terry, two brothers, Leslie Allen and Billy Joe, sister, Lettie Frances, and stepdaughter, Sylvia. He is survived by his four stepdaughters, Rosemarie, Ursula, Sybille, and Jan, one stepson, Stephen, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
He graduated from Higginsville, MO High School in 1943 and was immediately drafted into the Army where he served as a mortar gunner with the 100th Infantry Division, where he earned the Combat Infantry Badge and 3 Battle Stars.
When the war was over, he worked for two years in Germany as a civilian. On April 17, 1948 he married Terry Kraft Mueller and her four daughters, Rosemarie, Ursula, Sybille and Sylvia, and moved his family to Missouri. He had no children of his own, but he raised these four girls as his own.
He and Terry realized that a high school education was not adequate, so in September of 1949, they moved the family to Monticello, AR, where he received his college BS degree in Physics & Mathematics at Arkansas A. & M. College, graduating with honors at the top of the Science Department. He received a Fellowship from the AEC and continued his education in Health Physics at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. In 1954, he was employed as an engineer by the Western Electric Company, Burlington, NC. He worked for them for 36 years, advancing to Senior Engineer and retired in February 1990.
After his first wife died, Harold met his second wife, Betty Hader Hoback at their 50th High School reunion in 1993. They were married April 22, 1994 in Parkville, MO. Her two children, Stephen and Jan, were added to Harold's family.
They moved to Sun City, AZ, where they enjoyed a happy retirement living. When Harold was 85, they moved to Gladstone, MO to be near Betty's children and lived there until his death. Harold was very active in Blue Lodge Masonry, the Shrine, the Sun Lakes Interfaith Council, the Sun Lakes Community Church and more recently in the Gashland United Methodist Church.
