Glennis B. (Hatz) Ahern, of Winter Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023 in Liberty, MO. Glennis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Glennis was born in Lamar, Iowa on September 25, 1928, to Frank Hatz and Marie Schmidt Hatz. Glennis is survived by her six children: Patricia Niblock of Phoenix, AZ, Susan Mason (Glenn) of Bullhead City, AZ, Debra Ahern (Steve Wolcott) of Smithville, MO, Danial Ahern, Oviedo, FL, Colleen Manfredi (Larry) of Las Vegas, NV, and Frank Ahern (Jeanie) of Blairsville, GA, and one sister Doris Martin of Raytown, MO. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren, 42 greatgrandchildren, and 14 great- great grandchildren.
Glennis was proceeded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Daniel P. Ahern, as well as her parents, and two bothers Dick and Jim Hatz, and two sisters, Phyillis Rosenberger, and Betty Milburn.
Glennis moved to the Waldo Neighborhood of Kansas City and graduated high school at the age fifteen from Southwest High School. She and her husband Daniel married and raised their family in Kansas City, MO. Glennis was an active participant in the St. Gabriel’s Church and School. After Daniel retired from the KCMO Fire Department, they moved to Winter Springs, FL in 1976. Glennis then became an active member of her parish at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Casselberry, FL, as well as her retirement community of Hacienda Village. She was also an employee for many years as a researcher at the Orlando Sentinel. Glennis and her husband Daniel were world travelers and enjoyed sharing stories of their journeys with their many family members and friends.
Glennis will be remembered most for her incredible wit, sense of humor, and love of family.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, November 16 at 1 PM. at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty, MO with a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 PM. Glennis will be laid to rest on Tuesday, November 21 at 3 PM at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to Local 42 Community Assistance, which supports firefighters and their families.
