Glenn Edward Murphy, 89, of St. Joseph, MO passed away March 24, 2013 at Heartland Regional Health Center in St. Joseph, MO.He was born July 20, 1923 four miles north of Cameron, MO to Cornelius and Lulu Mabel (Stewart) Murphy. Glenn married Helen Ayers on June 16, 1951 at the St. Joseph Cathedral. He attended Liberty Country School in the Cameron area and graduated from Maysville High School in 1942. Glenn's highlight was playing sports.After graduation he served his country in the USA Navy during WWII. He was in Camp Waldren Co 110. After training he went to San Francisco Bay, CA shipped to the South Pacific and later to the Admiralty Islands. He spent 22 months on a ship repair base. His fleet sailed in the invasion of the Philippines, also chauffeured the commadore.He traveled on a DC-3 to Sidney, Australia on Christmas Day, he returned to the states. Early in 1946 he was discharged as Boatswain's Mate, Second Class, SV6. Glenn was honored to serve as an usher in FDR's memorial service. In the Maysville area he worked for several local farmers. He was employed 42 years at Williams Pipeline in Kansas City, MO. After retirement Helen and Glenn wintered many years in Arizona until Helen passed away in March of 1999. Glenn loved square dancing, music, KC Chiefs, sports in general and visiting with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis, Ferol, Wayne and sister Irene Laderoute.Glenn is survived by sister, Ellen Gallus and a longtime family friend Ruth Long, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.Graveside services are 11:00 am Saturday March 30th at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Glassed Cemetery Interment Chapel, 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO.
