Gerald Benton Walter, 92, of Raymore, Mo passed away at the Rehabilitation Center & Nursing Home in Raymore on November 20, 2015. Funeral services with military honors will be 10:30 AM Friday November 27th at Terrace Park Cemetery Lakeside Chapel, with visitation preceding services 10:00 – 10:30 AM. Burial in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, Kansas City Chapter in memory of Gerald B. Walter.
Gerald was born to the late Clarence Walter and Zylphia Ferne Benton July 18, 1923 in Redding, Iowa. His wife of 63 years, Dora Dean (Reno) Walter preceded him in death. Gerald was a World War II Army veteran, receiving the Combat Infantry Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, The European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medals along with several others. After returning to the states he made a living as a U.S. Grain Inspector. He and his wife lived in St. Joseph, Mo, then moving spending the majority of their life in Arizona, before coming to Missouri in their later years. Gerald was a member of the Raytown St. Paul Nazarene Church.
Survivors include his 2 sisters in law, Melba Grove, of North Kansas City, Bonnie Jean and Robert E. Hankins, of Lee’s Summit, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to all the staff of the Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home of Raymore, and Crossroads Hospice, for the years they were involved in lovingly caring for Gerald and his wife.
