George Anderton , 86, of Gladstone, Missouri went to be with the Lord July 30, 2012. George was born to George, Sr. and Elizabeth Sims Anderton on May 8, 1926, George was one of 12 children. When he was very young, his father died and he began working full time at the age of 14 to help support the family. George worked for the food vendors in the commissary at the old North American Plant during World War II, which became the BOP General Motors Plant. He stayed at that plant for 45 years until he had to retire after losing his voice to cancer. He was affectionately called "Jr." by all at the plant.George was a charter member of Hillside Christian Church, a deacon Emeritus, served on the board and many committees, as well as preparing many meals for the congregation, before his health failed. He helped start the first Cub Scout Troop at Hillside. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth Anderton, 8 sisters and 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Campfield Anderton, son John, daughter Judy Jennings (Tom), and two grandsons Toby Jennings (Amber) and Christopher Jennings.Celebration of Life is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Hillside Christian Church, 900 Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64118. Visitation, with light refreshments, at Noon after the service.
