Kansas City

Gayle Lee Brumet, born on March 1, 1943, to Donald Poffenbaugh and Elizabeth Hartman, passed away on April 20, 2025 at Saint Lukes East Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Gayle grew up in Toledo, Ohio and later lived in Grand Rapids, MI, Evansville, IN and Kansas City, MO. She was married to Robert Brumet for 26 years and had four children from this marriage. Gayle was very close to her children and family. She lived in a housing community where she formed many close relationships as well. This is indicative of her extremely kind and loving nature. She was a fun, fun-loving, nurturing and caring woman who was always there for others, as well as being the life of the party. Gayle was also a very strong and fiercely independent woman, who overcame many obstacles in her lifetime. Her personality showed up in how she related to others, the choices she made in careers and with whom and what she passionately advocated for. Gayle had an eclectic professional life that included secretarial work, dealing cards at a casino, social services and sales. Her favorite jobs were with Women and Community Service (WICS) and selling carpet at Carpet Corner. This is reflective of her giving and compassionate nature, as well as her ability to genuinely connect with others. Her favorite past-times were spending time with family and friends, playing cards and games, traveling, reading, and watching movies and political shows. Gayle was a strong social advocate and was passionate about history and politics. She did volunteer work and donated to many related causes.

Gayle was survived by her two older sisters, Janice Connors and Carol Blalock, her four children, Brenda (David) Weston, Steve (Pam) Brumet, Eric (Gina) Brumet, and Andrea McCormack, as well as 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her family was extremely important to her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, 12 pm at the clubhouse within the Duncan Estates community, 633 SW Burry St, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
