Freida M. Bechtel, 90, of Lawrence, KS, passed away July 17, 2016 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. She was born in Anderson, MO June 25, 1926 to Thomas Guymon and Fannie (O’Shay) Adcock. The family later moved to Wilson, KS where she lived until her marriage to Paul R. Bechtel in 1949.
Paul’s service in the Air Force meant he and Freida lived in many places during his 20 years in the military, including Shreveport, LA, Great Falls, MT, where son Tom was born, Columbus, OH and Fort Worth, TX. Upon Paul’s retirement in 1966, they relocated to Kansas City, MO where Paul worked for TWA and Freida for the FAA. In 1989 the couple settled in Bella Vista, AR to live out their retirement years.
Freida worked in various government jobs for 40 years. She enjoyed square dancing, camping, knitting, crocheting, playing dominoes and traveling. She was an avid Royals fan and enjoyed watching the Kansas Jayhawks since moving to Lawrence. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Freida is survived by son, Tom (Kathy); granddaughter, Megan Lawrence (Jason); grandson, Ryan Bechtel (Michelle) and great-grandchildren, J.T. and Heidi Lawrence. She is preceded in death by husband, Paul, parents, brothers, Paul and Hugh Adcock, sister, Annie Small and great-grandson, Greyson Bechtel.
