Florence L. King, 91, of Kansas City, Missouri, died peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018. She was born August 26, 1927, in Stockton, Kansas to the late James E. and Vida (Turner) Hammond.
Florence was an avid volunteer; she spent 19 years with the Girl Scout Council, 12 years with St. Luke’s Hospital and was a faithful member of Fairview Christian Church for more than 50 years. She was a fierce woman; so much that a hurricane with her name is following her passing.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Maurice W. King; children Susie (John) Thorman, Thomas “Tom” King, Patricia (Mark) Barcley, Karen (Ronn) Shatswell, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Maxine Jackson, brothers Warren (Anita) Hammond and Kenneth Hammond. She is also survived my many extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents Florence is preceded in death by her sister Virginia Carpenter and brothers Everett and Harold Hammond.
Visitation will be Friday, September 14, 2018, from 6-8 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
