Eugene Palmer

February 4, 1929 — June 19, 2020

Eugene "Gene" Spurgeon Palmer, 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away on June 19, 2020. Gene was born

on February 4, 1929 in Knox County, OH to Charles and Ethel (Synder) Palmer. He attended John Brown

University in Arkansas where he was known for his sense of humor and pulling pranks. There he met the

love of his life, Frances Wright. After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, he

enlisted in the Air Force. Following his service, he began working for TWA as an engineer and retired

after 34 years as Director of Aircraft Engineering. Gene was always a hard worker and enjoyed fixing

anything.  He passed his love of music and singing down to his children and especially enjoyed singing

church hymns at Sherwood Bible Church where he was a longtime member. He served on Sherwood's

elder board for years and supported many missionaries through the church.  After retirement, he and

Fran traveled and helped their missionary friends in other countries. Gene will be fondly remembered

and greatly missed by his wife of 67 years, Frances; a sister, JoAnne Allen; five children; 15

grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Sherwood Bible Church on

Tuesday, June 23rd at 10:00am, followed by a private burial at Terrace Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to City Union Mission.
