Eugene “Gene” Morris, 90, of Kansas City, Missouri, died at home on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was born July 9, 1926 in Burlington, Kansas to the late John E. and Mildred A. (Bunton) Morris.
He spent his career working in grocery stores and as a partner in restaurants with his wife of 68 years, Lee. He was famous for his BPB&J sandwiches; having his “recipe” shared in the Merrell Family Cookbook and on Facebook; including smashing the bread together and licking the edges. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; and loved anything to do with watersports from waterskiing, jet skiing and boating. He was an only child but embraced Lee’s large family; and he enjoyed being with his family no matter how large and loud they were.
Gene was the loving husband of Lee Morris, dear Dad of Wanda (Dana) Sinkhorn and Mark (Debbie) Morris; cherished Papa of Melissa (Curtis) Hunter, David Anthony “Tony” Morris, Mike (Trisha) Sinkhorn, Jeremy (Kassie) Whitley, Chad Whitley, Heather (Josh) Cantebury and Kyle (Kylee) Morris; and great-grandfather to 12.
Services will be private with final resting place at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to NorthCare Hospice, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, Kansas City, MO 64116. Or Platte Woods United Methodist Church, 7310 NW Prairie View Rd, Platte Woods, MO 64151. Share online condolences at TerraceParkFuneral.com.
