Ervin William “E.W.” Carey, 92, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri. E.W. was born June 24, 1925, to William and Dora (Moore) Carey, in Linn, Missouri. At 17 years old E.W. joined the Marines, during World War II. On May 13, 1947 he married Dorothy Smith. The couple opened up the Golden Dip Ice Cream Shop at the corner of Barry Rd and N. Oak in 1952. During the summer E.W. would put up a big screen and show black and white movies in the field behind the shop. They were the first to have a drive up window to place your order. He was an avid bowler and was on television a couple of times to bowl. He was also a builder by trade and built his own house in 1964, then was paid for by the time it was finished being built. In his free time he also loved fishing and reading the bible. He boasted that he had read the bible front to back at least 4 times.
E.W. was preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 65 years, and six siblings; Marybelle Drushall, Delphia Buck, Sylvia Carey, Augustus Carey, Nelson Carey, and Chester Carey.
He is survived by his son Dennis (Noni) Carey of Lamar, MO, brother Clyde Carey, granddaughters; Denise and Jenna Carey, also four great grandchildren; Jennifer Super, Rob (Holly) Ballard, Keri Stockton, and Ava VanNatta.
